Just 20 years later since the Chester F. Carlson's invention
of xerography, here in Japan, a small community named " The
Society of Electrophotography of Japan (SEPJ) " was organized.
Now the Society has grown up one of the core society for the imaging
science and technology in Japan. This year, the SEPJ has seen
the 40th anniversary.
During the past 40 years, we have experienced various innovations.
At first, the main purpose of the Society was to study and introduce
the electrophotographic technologies. After the middle of 1980s,
we introduced a topic on manifold non-impact printing, NIP, technologies.
Thus, SEPJ is working in the field of hardcopy and the main interests
are the genuine electrophotography for the documents and the diverse
NIP approaching to the photo-grade printings. Now we wish to introduce
a new field of rewritable hardcopying technology, which will be
based on the technologies of new printing media and the electronic
imaging.
Taking this opportunity, the Society renamed "The Imaging
Society of Japan", ISJ, to establish the global development
of the Society with more wide technical territory. New name was
aproved at the SEPJ 1998 general assembly meeting on July 14,
1998 at the Shigaku Kaikan Hall, "Arcadea Ichigaya",
Ichigaya, Tokyo.
